The image above is one of the current logos for Spaulding High School's "Red Raiders" in Rochester, New Hampshire. Despite claims of those who support retaining this logo in the name of "pride" and "tradition," there is little consistency in the look of this logo, from the image on the school's website to the grotesque version on the gymnasium floor to the blue-haired version on the baseball uniforms to the NFL inspired version used by the marching band.
The New England Anti-Mascot Coalition has conducted research into the various images displayed at the school over the years, dating back to the Class of 1957 yearbook (thanks, Sharon!).
It is our contention that, based on this research, there is no tradition with regard to the dozens of logos used by the school since 1939. In deciding what image to affix to clothing, signage, and literature at the school, Spaulding High School coaches and administration have used this simplistic guideline: "If it looks like an 'Indian,' let's use it."
