Long Live Yakoo the Mascot in Quincy

I grew up in the Wollaston section of Quincy and graduated from North Quincy High School. Gene Ward's letter of Feb. 15 ("It's time for Yakoo the mascot to retire") was very troubling as well as insulting.

Ward's musings smack of an imagination run amok, and he seems intent on creating a problem where no problem exists. Surely, as a member of the Quincy Human Rights Commission, he could find far more worthwhile projects on which to spend his time.

My sincere hope is that common sense will prevail and Yakoo will live on—not retire—with his dignity intact. I know he will in the hearts and minds of generations of NQHS students.
