Red Raider logo debate continues

ROCHESTER While the official discussion on Spaulding High School's Red Raider logo has ended, the debate continues.
Save the Red Raider founder and alumnus Jeremy Bourgeois said he's concerned about alumnus Peter Sanfaçon's attempt to rekindle the issue with his many letters to the editor and other attempts to encourage the change of the logo. Bourgeois said the Save the Red Raider organization is still selling bumper stickers and other memorabilia on its website if alumni who support the logo would like to display their solidarity.
Sanfaçon had asked the school district in March to consider changing the logo because he said it was insensitive and discriminatory to American Indians. The School Board held a public hearing April 11 to gather input on whether to keep or change the logo, and the community came together in support of the logo, calling it a symbol of school pride. Sanfaçon, his family members and School Board member Bob Watson supported the change.
